SQUIGGLE

FORM

Squiggle was a product of 2019. A multipurpose object that explored the plaful neotenic and memphis design elements popular at the time.
Measuring 4.25 x 4.25 x 4.25, squiggle has no sharp corners with a graphic extruded snaking design. Some versions included a plant basket or a removed bottom to allow for an electrical outlet.

INSPIRATION

I had recently seen the Ettore Sottsass at the since closed Met Breuer as well as the Neotenic Design Exhibition at IDO. Squiggle imulated these graphic elements, bold playfully colors, and glossy finishes.

PROCESS

First I went though several iterations modeling in Fusion 360. After 3D-printing my final form, I created a 4-part plaster slipcasting mold. Using this method I was able to create a large volume of pieces, with seemingly endless aesthetic iterations. It was important to me that every squiggle was unique. Since I was producing them myslef, I could experiment with an array of finishes and aesthetic I would not have been able to do with sampleing for mass production.
